I’m back & Instagram photos from Tokyo

It’s taken me a long time this time to recover from the trip. I had wanted to blog when I was still in Shanghai but technology wasn’t on my side. For the strangest reason, whenever I tried to connect to the internet at home with my laptop, it would crash the whole network. Okay so that was more of an excuse than anything. I could have gone to an internet cafe or borrowed my uncle’s PC to write if I was that keen but truth was, I wanted to enjoy my holiday. As a result, I haven’t written in a long time!

But I’m back. :)

I didn’t do much in Shanghai apart from attending my cousin’s wedding and various outings with my relatives. Oh and shopping, how can I forget the shopping. As such there really wasn’t many photos I could share.

Same goes with Tokyo. After paying so much for the flight and hotels, we naturally had to spend every minute doing something productive and that meant no blogging either. In fact, we spent most of the time eating and shopping rather than the expected sightseeing. Oh well, sightseeing can wait till next time. I did manage to post all of my food adventures in Tokyo on Instagram though. Below are a few of the Instragram photos I created.

Japanese style seafood claypot, Asakusa

The best eel rice I've ever had, Asakusa. Thanks Ichi! :D

Hot crinkle cut chips and round delicious fries from Calbee Harajuku

Omurice for lunch, Shibuya

Lasagna with shimeji mushrooms, Harajuku. Tasted very different to regular lasagna, although very delicious.

Tuna on rice, made in the comfort of our hotel room with 100yen utensils and super cheap ingredients. Delicious.

We went to Izakayas almost every night, it was the thing I missed most about Tokyo...the fantastic skewers and beer drinking atmosphere..

Yasai (seasonal vegetables) tempura with cold soba

Best tonkatsu ever! I miss the crispy, juicy pork...

Part of the chef's omakase sushi set at Tsukiji Market

Self service 24hr seafood Izakaya, Ueno

Katsujuu, near Kappabashi

We had so much ramen on this trip! This is one of the better ones, Ippudou near Ueno

Nagasaki chanpon, sort of like ramen but more vegetables and not as oily.

I think all the desserts I had on the trip deserves a post of its own since we went to the famous French patisserie called Laduree in Ginza and sampled so many cakes and desserts in between our main meals. The above images were of course, just a small selection of the photos I took and the meals we had….there were just too many delicious moments!

I will endeavour to go through all of my photos for this trip and put some more posts together in the next few days. Till then, happy Anzac Day for tomorrow!

Welcome home! I too wondered if that was chocolate on the potatoes. Wacky but wonderful combination.

Thanks Maureen! I was a bit nervous about the flavour combination at first too but now I can’t go back to normal salty chips anymore!

Oh it definitely does, you can probably find it at all good Japanese restaurants. If there are Asian grocery stores near you, you might even be lucky to find them pre-packaged and all you need to do is heat it up with some rice and you’ve got yourself a delicious meal. :)

Thanks Daisy!! 😀 I’m so rejuvenated that it’s turned me completely lazy. As you can see from the lack of posts since I got back. Ahem. I will start again, very soon. 😛

Sounds like you had a great time eating all kinds of food this time! I always feel I don’t have enough time in Japan. It’ll be nice if we can meet up in Japan one day. 😉

Yes it totally would be, then I’d actually know what I’m talking about when I order things. 😛 I totally understand what you mean by not enough time there, I was there for 2 weeks and it felt like only 2 days! There’s just too much delicious foods and so much shopping everywhere…

Hello. I just stumbled across your blog the other day and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I love food, and I especially love Japanese food. I enjoyed looking at this post of food in Japan. Reminds me of my trips to Japan – I always eat so much food there.
I am intrigued by the 24 hour seafood self service Izakaya – how did it work? And the chips with chocolate…yum! I’m addicted to the Royce chocolate covered chips, but these ones look even better. Anyway, that’s for making an awesome blog with so much tasty food for me to look at!
