Mango, banana & rockmelon smoothie

It might sound strange to you but I grew up drinking yoghurt in China. Yes, drink, not eat. In China, yoghurt is slightly watered down and is served as a drink rather than a desert or snack so it’s in no way as thick as the yoghurt we can get here in Australia. My brother wasn’t used to the whole drinking thing when he visited China as it wasn’t something he grew up with but it’s actually quite delicious and fitting as an after meal cleanser.

If I had to choose, I’d still prefer the thick eating yoghurt as it’s more versatile and the taste is significantly more intense. I also love the yoghurt that have chunky fruit in it, giving it a whole new level of taste and texture. One of my favourite flavours is mango yoghurt as I love the taste of mangoes. It’s the only thing that keeps me happy during the rest of the year when mangoes are not in season.

Mango yoghurt (or any flavoured yoghurt) is great in smoothies, especially when paired with bananas. The creamy texture and awesome flavour is so hard to resist. While I sweated in the kitchen during the past few days, I always stopped for a quick and refreshing homemade smoothie. I usually like just mango and banana but this time I had forgotten about a whole rock melon I purchased a little while ago so I thought it was a good idea to mix it in. It turned out to be a fantastic combination of flavours and I finished it in almost one go.

It doesn’t matter how much house work you do, always remember to reward yourself with a cold, refreshing and totally delicious smoothie.

Mango, banana & rockmelon smoothie
Serves 2

Ingredients

• 200g rock melon, roughly chopped
• 1 ripe banana, sliced
• 2 cups ice cubes
• 5 tbsp mango yoghurt
• 1 small fresh mango or 200g drained canned mango
• 100ml mango juice

Instructions

1. Pur all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until all the ice cubes and other ingredients have been blended thoroughly.
2. Pour into 2 tall glasses and serve immediately.

Question time: Do you like yoghurt? What’s your favourite flavour? Have you tried or would you try drinking yoghurt?
