Patricia Coffee Brewers, Melbourne

I think every Melbournian would agree with me that there’s really no shortage of great coffee joints here. We’ve developed such an astounding coffee culture that I wouldn’t be surprised if travel agencies start adding coffee tours to their Melbourne site seeing repertoire, if it hasn’t been done already. In fact, I think that would be a great idea! It was definitely high on the list when my cousins visited not too long ago.

I thought I was quite well informed with coffees already since I’ve been drinking so much of it, but Patricia Coffee Brewers in the CBD really surprised me when I visited. I felt like I should have done my homework better. When I walked in, the first thing I saw was the ‘Standing Room Only’ sign on the ground. Without even giving it a second thought, I went up to the counter and asked ‘do you have any tables to sit down?’. I’m sure you don’t need to guess what the answer was. I felt quite silly at that point.

After standing around for a while and my friends have arrived, I walked up to the counter again to make my order.

“Can I please order a latte and a cappuccino for my friend?” I have embarrassed myself yet again. It was clearly written on the wall that they had 3 types of coffees and they were Black, White or Filtered. So it turned out that they only had 1 type of white coffee and that was essentially a flat white.

I had embarrassed myself twice in one day. Regardless, we still enjoyed our coffees immensely.

I was offered a Seven Seeds specialty blend of the day while Yuye ordered a Guatemalan single origin coffee. They may have looked the same, but they tasted quite different.

While my Seven Seeds blend was smooth and strong, Yuye’s Guatemalan variety was sour on the palate. Although both were delicious and aromatic, I think I’m still not cultured enough to enjoy the sourness of some coffees, so naturally I preferred the Seven Seeds blend more. I must say though, Patricia Coffee Brewers were very good at making the perfect froth and coffee art. It was so smooth and beautiful that I didn’t want to break that beauty by drinking it.

While we were waiting for our coffees, we were given sparkling mineral water to drink. This is the first time I’ve been offered this instead of regular tap water so we were all quite surprised. It’s too bad both myself and Sat don’t like drinking sparkling water. 🙁

Patricia is very popular with local white collars and there is often not enough room in that small space even for standing so take away coffees are probably in order if you wish to visit, unless if you’re willing to wait for a free window sill.

Question time: For all you coffee drinkers, do you like coffees with a sour hint?

Oooh the coffee art looks great! I love sparkling water at the moment! I find it to be more thirst-quenching than water sometimes.

Your latte art is great and I love that there isn’t a great jump on the different coffee prices.
