The days are getting shorter and darkness is upon us a lot earlier now. By 5pm the Sun starts to hide and I can just tell that the customers are rushing home before darkness arrives. The cold morning air and gusts of wind that come through the door is proof that Winter is well and truly upon us.
I’m starting to crave for comfort food like stews and soups but also miss the breakfasts and coffee in 30 degree heat.
If you can’t tell, I’m really falling behind with posting recently. The winter weather makes me sleepy and more lethargic. I just want to get straight into bed after I get home after work. typing sometimes makes my fingers numb with the coldness and perhaps the cold is making my brain numb too. Sometimes I just can’t find the right words to type. Do you feel this way too?
It seems like yesterday when I visited Lip Cafe. This was just before Yuye and I bought the business and we were in the area for business reasons. I remember clearly that it was over 30 degrees and I was sweating as if I was in a sauna. The bad thing was, Lip Cafe didn’t seem to have air-conditioning.
Never mind though as we both enjoyed this cute little cafe with lovely drawings and patterns on the walls. Cafes like this make me feel comfortable.
Even though the cafe seems very small with limited seating, a walk around revealed a small garden at the back with herbs growing in pots and more chairs to enjoy the beautiful sunshine (and if you want to die of heat).
I adore the caravan divider. Maybe it can seat people too?
Even though it was super hot, I just couldn’t pass on the coffee. That’s just what I do. So I sucked it up and drank my hot latte made by a super awesome barista. I think he was a little shy at me snapping photos at him, see that little smirk? Haha.
It was a great latte with perfect froth and a strong fragrance. Yuye didn’t want to order a coffee that day as he wasn’t as crazy as I was which was a shame. Else I could have taken a photo of a cappuccino too. He decided to get an orange juice. I was just a little bit envious of his cold drink. Just a little.
Although the menu here’s not super big, it was sufficiently fancy to satisfy our cravings.
“I got no eggs!” said one of the categories on the menu. What do you mean you got no eggs? How can anyone in their right mind not get something with eggs? Well, maybe the heat made me out of my mind but I actually felt like something healthy with no eggs that day. What I got was the Lip Rosti ($15) with potato rosti, mushrooms, tomatoes, avocado and tomato relish. Not often do I have “GF+V” written next to my dish. Did I like it? Absolutely. Did it need eggs? Not really.
It was just a tasty and healthy bite that didn’t make me overly bloated. It was also not that oily and I loved the homemade relish with its citrussy tang.
It just wouldn’t be right if neither of us got any form of eggs. So, Yuye ordered My Mini Lip $(12) with 1 avocado toast, 1 bacon, 2 poached eggs and dukkah on top. It was a small and light dish that tasted great. It was just the right size for that weather.
Of course, the eggs were done perfectly so here’s the egg porn.
Lip Cafe is a small suburban gem that I’m sure has locals swarming during the day. The only downside is the parking outside which seemed to be very limited. Couldn’t remember if it was 1 or 1/2 hour parking. If you’re after a nice long relaxing lunch, perhaps park on a side street and walk there. Else it’s a fantastic spot for a quick but great bite and a good caffeine hit.
Have a great long weekend my lovelies!

Easy to get lethargic! Although that happens to me more in warm weather than cold. Fun cafe!
