I rarely eat out by myself. In fact, I despise doing so. Why? I hear you ask. Apart from having no one to talk to during the meal, I also can’t order as many dishes!
Like a lot of bloggers and foodies, I always want to order just about everything on the menu. This is a particularly bad idea when dining alone.
It so happened that a little while ago, I had two blogging events on the same day, one early in the morning and one at night very close to each other. So what did I do during the day? I ate lunch by myself at Peko Peko in Fitzroy.
Peko Peko is a casual Japanese restaurant featuring popular dishes like sushi, gyoza and don (rice bowls with toppings) but you’ll see some modern twists on the classic dishes. For one, they use capsicum in their bowls which I don’t see often.
I ordered a special of the day – Ebi Curry Udon ($16) which came with 2 fried prawns. Again I wasn’t too sure about the capsicum in it but the sauce was thick and tasty. The bowl didn’t look all that big but I was seriously full by the end of it.
That’s why I should really not have ordered the agedashi tofu as well. But blogging about just one dish seemed so…insufficient. That’s my silly blogger thinking for you. The dish was not bad, it was a tiny bit on the bland side just because the tofu pieces were quite large and the sauce wasn’t salty enough to penetrate the middle. It was still light and fluffy and a little bit crunchy on the outside from the light frying.
I didn’t feel well after eating so much. Perhaps I will be wiser next time I dine alone. Or…maybe not.
